Welcome to the Stone CLP
Women'sGroup
We are part of the nationwide network of Women’s forums within the Labour Party. Our local group was founded in 2017 and since then we’ve had a lot of fun, new friendships have been formed and we’ve learnt a lot along the way!
What we’ve achieved so far:
- Regular well supported monthly meetings in a friendly, relaxed and safe environment.
- The forum played a significant role in the local 2019 GE Campaign and we were proud to have several members standing in the 2019 Borough and Town Council elections.
- We were instrumental in getting the local campaign to reopen Stone Post Office up and running.
- We have had speakers on a wide range of topics – local councillors, representatives from women’s charities & foodbanks.
- We took part in the Stoke City ‘Big Sleep Out’ in January 2018, raising money for the Macari centre and highlighting the continuing plight of homelessness locally.
- We held a successful Garden party to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Equal Franchise Act
- Several members attended the first Labour Women’s Conference in Telford February 2019
- Our always popular Summer and Christmas socials!
- Active WhatsApp and Facebook Groups

Why have a women’s group?
- To give women a voice and build confidence in a supportive setting
- With too few women MPs and elected officials at every level,
politics has never been more important. We aim to recruit more women to the party and support those who wish to stand as officers/ councillors - While progress has been made, women still face discrimination in all walks of life. We aim to raise awareness of inequalities and campaign on contemporary issues such as sexual harassment, the continuing gender pay gap and state pension inequality (WASPI)
- We champion the views of women in the constituency, listening and acting on what matters.
